Description

The history of the company dates back to 1899 when it was founded by Giovanni Martellozzo in Camposampiero, a little town in the Veneto region, in the North East of Italy. His son Mario, a very skilled winemaker, made it well known and appreciated on the Italian and foreign market. In 1992, Mario, soon after his retirement, leaves the entire management to his 29-year-old daughter, Piera. Ever since then, Piera has become the testimonial and reference point on the national and international wine scenery and the company's name changes from “Vinicola Martellozzo” into "Piera Martellozzo 1899".

The family trade has gradually turned into a modern organization and in 2001 Piera Martellozzo 1899 acquired a large scale winery in San Quirino, in the nearby Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The Terroir of the Friuli Grave region is unique. Small white pebbles protect the vines’ roots from all weather conditions. These pebbles confer a greater minerality that gives wines a unique flavour.

The parched and stony soil of Grave of Friuli gives birth to a variety of DOC wines intense with aromas and well balanced. You can find here the perfect climate for the best grapes. The main factor is the considerable temperature range between days and nights, around 15 degrees. The perfect condition to obtain sugars through the process of photosynthesis.
